Oaklawn’s Got Talent

Friday, May 20 @ 7:00 pm

Oaklawn is excited to present the first Oaklawn’s Got Talent! Join us for a fun evening featuring amazing local acts that will benefit mental health and addiction treatment – all while embracing how strong community and healthy self-expression support mental wellness.

Our judges auditioned nearly 30 local acts and picked the top four – and now, it’s up to our audience to decide who wins! Each attendee will get one vote, and at the conclusion of all our performances, the audience will cast their votes and we’ll announce the first winner of Oaklawn’s Got Talent!

Finalists are:

Illusionist Kevin Long: As a professional illusionist and magician, Kevin Long creates impossible moments to remember. He’s brought one-of-a-kind experiences to audiences of all ages, working with some of the best talent in the industry, from major concerts and festivals to corporate events and private parties.

Singer-Songwriter Abbie Thomas: Abbie Thomas’ music is pure emotion and raw truth. Her first album, Who I Am, released in June 2021 with 13 songs that were never meant to be heard by others. They were her therapy – real-world heartaches that began to heal through instruments and notepads, dark places filled with light through lyric and melody. There’s power in that kind of bare storytelling, and she sees it first-hand in how audiences connect with her music.

Epic Dance Company: The team behind Epic Dance Studios believes dance can transform lives and build important life skills students will use long after their time in the studio. This non-profit studio is a place for self-expression, creativity and learning to give back. Student dancers help provide workshops at local schools and youth-serving agencies, exposing young people to the power of the performing arts – an experience they may not get elsewhere. And, through corporate partnerships, the studio funds scholarships for students with financial need, expanding opportunities for the arts for more youth in the community.

Singers-Songwriters Marcus & Marketo: Marcus Clingaman and Marketo Michel have sung together for nearly seven years after meeting through Craigslist. Both worship leaders, they shared a desire to create an open and authentic worship experience. They have released two music projects, “Adoration Worship: Live in South Bend, Vol. 1” and “Living Room Sessions: Worship EP.” They lead worship locally at That Church Downtown and Hope Ministries, as well as regionally and nationally.
