Like many other black singer/songwriters\, he began performing gospel music in church settings as a youngster and then moved into the  secular field as a lyricist\, producer\, and singer. An active recording artist since the 1970s\, Clayton’s career has endured almost 40 years and has spanned a repertoire in the styles of  R&B\, soul\, and gospel. Birthed into an era of soul and R&B legends\, a time when music was  pure\, lyrics had meaning\, and artists had pronounceable names\, Willie Clayton is now one of the  few working artists of his contemporaries. Since the 1970’s he’s been crooning with the likes of  Ron Isley\, Bobby Womack\, Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye\, yet now he stands nearly alone\, facing a new generation. \nBorn in the Deep South (Indianola\, Mississippi) during the days of segregation\, Clayton\, unable  to find proper management or the success he sought moved to Chicago in 1971. Like many  other African American artists in the 1970’s\, the young singer ended up contracted to Hi  Records in Memphis\, where he worked with producer Willie Mitchell and the vaunted Hi rhythm  section. Hi issued a series of fine Clayton efforts on its Pawn subsidiary\, including “I Must Be  Losin’ You\,” “It’s Time You Made Up Your Mind\,” and “Baby You’re Ready\,” but none of them hit.  Finally\, in 1984\, Clayton enjoyed a taste of soul success when his “Tell Me” (produced by  General Crook) and “What a Way to Put It”\, scored on to the R&B charts. Let’s Get Together\,  Clayton’s 1993 album for Johnny Vincent’s Ace record label\, was a smooth soul-blues hybrid  dominated by originals but titled after Al Green’s immortal hit. \nSimply back on the scene after the mainstream success of Clayton’s “Boom Boom Boom and “A Woman Knows”\, which landed on Billboard album and airplay charts. Clayton is prepared to teach a new generation the right way to love. Self classified as an all-encompassing singer\, he refuses to be pigeonholed in one genre of music. “There aren’t many real gritty R&B singers. Bobby Womack\, Charlie Wilson and I are the last of that generation. \nI keep up with the music because I keep changing with the times. Where Levert left off\, I am picking it up\, and like him my music is relatable across the generations.” \nIn 2009 Clayton made what is known as one of the all time fan favorites with the project entitled Love\, Romance and Respect which featured two back to back Top 25 Urban Adult Contemporary Airplay Billboard Singles Charts with “Dance The Nite Away” and “We Both Grown” featuring Dave Hollister.Love\, Romance and Respect is truly a classic R&B album the world over. Working with young musicians and producers\, (none over the age of 30) has allowed Clayton to speak the language of love to modern rhythm and blues. Grateful for the young energy\, the expertise and perspective\, he feels this album is full of timeless music. “It’s not a one single album\, it’s grown and sexy. It’s about bringing romance\, love\, respect and sensuality back in the house.” \nIn 2011 the multi-talented singer\, songwriter\, producer released two separate projects in one physical year. “That’s work”\, said Clayton. The projects included The Voice which featured the hit single “Tonight” and The Tribute: One Man\, One Voice\, which featured the hit single “Be With Me”. Both singles were Top 25 records on the Urban Adult Contemporary airplay chart. Clayton continues to not just release music but quality projects that satisfy his fans and keep him entertaining fans all over the world.  With multiple releases throughout his career\, even in 2012 Clayton is confident in his newest offering to the world\, even reaching generation next\, by building an Internet presence and bridging the generational gap. “Mood music has no age limits\, this album reminds you how good it is to be in love\, or shows you how sweet it can be!” \nConsidered by critics and fans alike to be one of the last great “Soul” men\, Clayton continues to record and perform and has maintained a devoted following throughout the world.  With his new album “UNTAMABLE” featuring “Girl I Want Your Body”\, Mr. Clayton has once again laid claim to that famed title.  For those who have yet to partake of the Willie Clayton experience\, please do so hurriedly\, because this awesome wonder is just getting started. \nKandy Janai \nThe southern soul award winning diva\, Hailing out of Quincy Florida\, by way of Jackson Mississippi \, known by Kandy Janai the southern soul diva. He said\, “I used to wake up on Sunday mornings listening to Mom’s Apple Pie”. Learning from them and his musical heroes\, he realized that the road to success isn’t about going viral\, but about the strength of consistent hard work. He has put in the work. He started in the music industry while in high school and has been going strong ever since. His advice to aspiring artists\, “find your audience\, “and “once you find your audience\, just feed them.” That’s how you build your tribe \nWhether he is writing or producing\, J-Wonn often brings a fully-formed idea to the table. He finds real joy in collaborating and has worked with artists like Lenny Williams and Nellie Tiger Travis. His key piece of advice is to approach any collaboration with something valuable to offer\, not simply an ask. \nHaving an in-home studio has been a game-changer for J-Wonn\, allowing him to create at his leisure. He stresses the importance for independent artists to copyright their work before sharing it with the world and he provides a list of key resources to any Indie artist at the beginning of their journeys: \n\nA music publishing account\nA copyright registration\nA Google Adsense account\nFull control of your YouTube channel\n\nLooking ahead\, J-Wonn has a new single dropping– so mark your calendars! SUMMARY:Lunchtime Live with Celia Weiss – Kimball Organ Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Lerner is pleased to welcome an Elkhart favorite\, Celia Weiss\, back on The Lerner’s 1924 Kimball Organ in this free community series. \nCelia Weiss is one of few musical artists who hold the enviable record of having served as a soloist on two different musical instruments. A pianist and organist well known to local audiences\, the artist has appeared on numerous occasions with the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra\, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra\, the IUSB Philharmonic\, the Manchester University Symphony Orchestra\, and in recitals throughout the area. \nMrs. Weiss is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at IUSB for the Raclin School of the Arts where she teaches organ. She is a past recipient of the IUSB Merit Status and Outstanding Alumni Awards. She holds a B.M.E from Manchester College and a M.M. in Piano from Indiana University. An educator as well as a performer\, she has taught music in the Elkhart and Goshen Community Schools and piano at Goshen College. Since 1975 she has held the position of Director of Music and Organist for the First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart. She is a frequent accompanist for the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra and performs several piano and organ concerts for the Lerner Theatre’s “Lunchtime Live!” each year. \nThe 1924 Kimball pipe organ located in Elkhart\, Indiana’s Lerner Theatre is one of only two Kimball pipe organs currently installed in its original location. The organ was restored following the 2011 renovation of the theatre which opened on Thanksgiving Day\, 1924. After the restoration\, a crew of nearly 20 from Bunn-Minnick Pipe Organs of Columbus\, Ohio\, spent three weeks hoisting equipment and filling the two pipe chambers with more than 1\,000 pipes. The project absorbed nearly 10\,000 man-hours for the crew over a year.

SUMMARY:Elkhart County Symphony - Classics at the Woodland
DESCRIPTION:Get Elkhart County Symphony Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \nSeason 78 Begins at the Woodland! \nThe Elkhart County Symphony’s marvelous Season 78 premiere presents works by Mozart and Shostakovich\, and more\, from the tranquil comfort of the new outdoor Woodland Pavilion at Elkhart’s Wellfield Botanic Gardens \n“Classics at the Woodland\,” the Elkhart County Symphony’s 2025-26 season premiere\, presents wondrous orchestral music from the new\, outdoor Woodland Pavilion performance area at Elkhart’s Wellfield Botanic Gardens. On Sept. 7—within the serene\, late-summer splendor of Wellfield\, and now unhindered by any potential for uncooperative weather—the Symphony performs Mozart’s Overture from Marriage of Figaro\, Intermezzo from Cavalleria rusticana (Mascagni)\, L’Arlésienne Suite No. 2 (Bizet/Guiraud)\, and Festive Overture (Shostakovich). \nThe Symphony’s principal horn\, Debra Inglefield\, is featured performing Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4 in E flat. Ms. Inglefield\, a revered music teacher in our area\, has been teaching French horn at the University of Notre Dame since 1999 and has performed with numerous bands and orchestras\, including the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra and the Elkhart Municipal Band. She is currently the Adjunct Instructor of Horn at Indiana University South Bend\, Andrews University\, and the University of Notre Dame. \nA repertoire fit for a splendid location \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4 in E flat was completed in 1786. The renowned composer wrote the manuscript for the concerto in red\, green\, blue\, and black ink\, which was thought to be a humorous attempt by Mozart to jostle his longtime friend Joseph Leutgeb—the intended horn player for all four of Mozart’s Horn Concertos. The work is in three movements and is thought to have been first performed sometime in 1786. \nConsidered by most to be one of the greatest operas ever written\, The Marriage of Figaro was composed by Mozart in 1786\, with an Italian libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte and based on the 1784 stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais\, La folle journée\, ou le Mariage de Figaro (“The Mad Day\, or The Marriage of Figaro”). The opera\, which premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna on May 1\, 1786\, consistently ranks among the top 10 most performed operas worldwide (Operabase) and is considered foundational to the operatic repertoire. Marriage of Figaro—voted the greatest opera ever written by 172 opera singers in a 2017 BBC poll—is regarded as a masterpiece of operatic comedy. Music from the opera has been popularized through appearances in countless films and television shows. \nDmitri Shostakovich composed Festive Overture in 1954 after a piece was commissioned for the Bolshoi Theatre’s celebration of the 37th anniversary of the October Revolution. The score\, which begins with a brass fanfare later reappears before the work’s coda\, is one of the most beloved and enduring of Shostakovich’s occasional scores. \n\n \n Get Elkhart County Symphony Tickets

Thanks to iconic songs like Celebration\, Cherish\, Jungle Boogie\, Summer Madness\, and Open Sesame\, they’ve earned two Grammy Awards\, seven American Music Awards\, 25 Top Ten R&B hits\, 9 Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums. \nFrom Nairobi to Newark\, Kool & the Gang has performed continuously longer than any R&B group in history and their bulletproof funk and jazzy arrangements have also made them the most sampled R&B band of all time. A reviewer recently called their performance “a 24-karat show” and every year\, even after a half-century on the road\, yields a non-stop schedule of shows across the globe. \nThe heavily-in-demand band has continued to tour the world\, appearing most recently alongside Kid Rock\, Dave Matthews Band\, Elton John\, The Roots\, and a 50-city tour with the legendary rock band\, Van Halen. In 1964\, Ronald Bell and his brother\, Robert “Kool” Bell\, joined Jersey City neighborhood friends Robert “Spike” Mickens\, Dennis “Dee Tee” Thomas\, Ricky Westfield\, George Brown\, and Charles Smith to create a unique musical blend of jazz\, soul and funk. At first calling themselves the Jazziacs\, the band went through various names – The New Dimensions\, The Soul Town Band\, Kool & the Flames – before settling on their famous moniker. \nOver the next several years they solidified their musical chemistry on the rough-and-tumble East Coast music scene supporting acts like Bill Cosby\, Ritchie Havens and Richard Pryor. Their self-titled 1969 debut album introduced their signature instrumental sound and fierce horn arrangements and spawned their first Billboard R&B charted single\, Kool & the Gang. \nIn 1969 Kool & the Gang released their self-titled debut album. It was the introduction to a theme\, music is the message\, that Kool & the Gang stands by today. The instrumental album was an expression of their deep love of music. It was also an introduction to their signature sound and the fierce horn arrangements created by Khalis\, Dee Tee\, and Spike. Their debut album spawned their first Billboard R&B charted single Kool & the Gang and later Let the Music Take Your Mind. \nIn 1970\, their audacious sophomore set Live at the Sex Machine peaked at #6 on Billboard’s R&B chart and yielded three hit singles: Funky Man\, Who’s Gonna Take the Weight\, and I Want to Take You Higher. Next came The Best Of Kool & the Gang Featuring The Penguin\, Kool & the Gang Live at PJ’S\, Music Is The Message\, and Good Times\, all of which helped solidify a sound that wowed not only fans but such contemporaries as James Brown and Nina Simone. The band’s stellar reputation grew with each album\, but 1973’s gold disc Wild & Peaceful took Kool & the Gang to another level (#6 R&B\, #33 Pop)\, spurred by the immortal party anthems Funky Stuff\, Hollywood Swinging and the platinum smash Jungle Boogie. Hits like Higher Plane (#1 R&B)\, the classic Summer Madness (featured on the Grammy-winning movie soundtrack Rocky) and LPs Spirit of the Boogie\, Love & Understanding and Open Sesame followed. The latter’s title track was featured on the top-selling movie soundtrack of all time\, Saturday Night Fever\, earning the group their second Grammy. \nIn 1979\, Kool & the Gang unveiled a smooth new sound with Ladies Night. Produced by the legendary Pop/Jazz musician Eumir Deodato\, it became their first platinum album. The #1 R&B title track reached #8 at Pop. It was followed by Too Hot (#3 R&B\, #5 Pop). The 80’s would see them dominate the mainstream\, starting with the double platinum- selling album Celebrate (driven by the international monster hit Celebration\, which spent six weeks atop the R&B chart and became a #1 Pop single). \nCelebration\, which played as the American hostages returned from Iran\, remains de rigueur at joyous occasions worldwide. The smashes Get Down On It\, Take My Heart\, Let’s Go Dancing\, Joanna\, Tonight\, Misled\, the #1 R&B\, #2 Pop giant Cherish and the #1 R&B anthem Fresh (these last three from the multi-platinum LP Emergency) solidified the group’s international stardom. Kool & the Gang landed global commercial endorsements\, supported countless charitable causes and were the only American group to participate in Band Aid’s 1984 Do They Know It’s Christmas project for famine victims in Africa. \nWith the explosion of hip-hop in the 90’s\, Kool & the Gang’s incredible catalog of grooves made them DJ favorites. They were second only to R&B icon James Brown as sources of rap music samples. \nToday\, the group enjoys global fame and recognition and a following that spans generations due in part to the groups widely sampled catalogue. Kool & the Gang’s drum beats\, bass\, guitar and signature horn lines lace the tracks of numerous artists including the Beastie Boys\, Jay-Z\, Madonna\, Janet Jackson\, Cypress Hill\, and P. Diddy. Kool & the Gang is the most sampled band in hip-hop by far. Their music is also featured on the soundtracks for Rocky\, Saturday Night Fever\, Pulp Fiction\, Wreck-It Ralph and countless others. \nIn 2014\, they were honored with a BET Soul Train Lifetime Achievement Award and in October 2015\, in the town they sing about in one of their earliest hits\, “Hollywood Swinging\,” Kool & the Gang was honored to take their place as American musical icons with a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. \nIn 2016\, they released a single\, “Sexy (Where’d You Get Yours)\,” which rose to #15 on the Billboard Adult R&B chart. The song signifies a modernization of Kool & the Gang’s unmistakable sound\, down to the dance floor tailored bass grooves and the perfectly timed horns. It was their first airplay chart hit in a decade. \nKool & the Gang’s years of hard work and talent earned them an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June 2018. \nIn 2019\, Kool & the Gang celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Here are a few ways they celebrated the milestone: \n\nInduction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.\nIn a touching tribute\, a street they grew up on in Jersey City has been renamed in their honor: “Kool & the Gang Way.”\n“Celebration” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame\nKool’s bass is displayed at the new Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington\, DC.\nArtifacts from the band’s archive have recently gone on display\, next to Count Basie\, at the newly opened Grammy Museum Experience in Newark\, NJ.\nOn March 24\, 2021\, Kool & the Gang’s timeless hit ‘Celebration’ was inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry\, Class of 2021.\nOn October 19\, 2024\, Kool & the Gang was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the Class of 2024.\n\nThe group continues to delight fans around the globe with their timeless hits and amazing live performances. SUMMARY:The Chrisette Michele Experience
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Chrisette Michele \nChrisette Michele emerged onto the neo-soul scene in the mid-2000s with a voice that resonated with depth and clarity. Born in Central Islip\, New York\, her journey into music began early\, influenced by jazz\, gospel\, and soul. Michele’s debut album\, I Am\, dropped in 2007\, introducing her velvety vocals to a broader audience. The album’s lead single\, “If I Have My Way\,” became an instant hit\, showcasing her soulful delivery and lyrical sensibility. In 2006 she won a Grammy Award and recognized from the song “Be OK” for Best Urban/Alternative Performances. Following the success of I Am\, Michele continued to carve out her niche in the music industry with albums like Epiphany (2009) and Let Freedom Reign (2010). Each album demonstrated her growth as an artist\, blending soul\, R&B\, and jazz influences into a cohesive sound uniquely her own. Tracks such as “Epiphany (I’m Leaving)” and “Goodbye Game” further solidified her reputation as a singer-songwriter unafraid to explore emotional depth in her music. \nDespite commercial success\, Michele’s career faced challenges\, notably when she released Better (2013)\, an album that showcased a more introspective and experimental side. Tracks like “A Couple of Forevers” revealed her ability to craft soulful ballads that resonated with listeners on a personal level.Beyond her studio albums\, Michele collaborated with industry heavyweights like Jay-Z and The Roots\, expanding her artistic reach and influence. Her ability to blend classic soul with contemporary R&B has earned her critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. \nThroughout her career\, Chrisette Michele has navigated the highs and lows of the music industry with resilience\, staying true to her musical roots while evolving as an artist. Her discography reflects not only her vocal prowess but also her growth as a storyteller\, capturing moments of love\, heartbreak\, and self-discovery with authenticity and soulful elegance. \nHoward Hewett \nHoward Hewett Jr. (born October 1\, 1955) is an American singer–songwriter.[2] Hewett rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the group Shalamar.[2] In 1985\, he left the group to pursue his solo career but he later returned to the group in 2001. He signed with Elektra Records. In 1986\, he released his debut solo album I Commit to Love. Hewett and his group Shalamar contributed material to the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. The soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media in 1986. Raised in Akron\, Ohio Hewett moved to Los Angeles in 1976\, where he first met Jeffrey Daniel and Jody Watley at a club in the LA Crenshaw district. Hewett formed a show group called “Beverly Hills” and toured throughout Europe\, the UK\, Scandinavia and Asia for all of 1977 till the middle of 1978. After returning from overseas\, Hewett started recording for Jeffrey Bowen. \nIn 1978\, he got a call from Jeffrey Daniel who was in need of a lead singer and Hewett accepted the offer.[8] Within three days Hewett flew to New Jersey\, where he met up with Watley and Daniel and started recording the Big Fun LP with their producer\, Leon Sylvers. The trio went on to record songs such as “Second Time Around”\, “Make That Move”\, “A Night to Remember”\, “Dancing in the Sheets” and the ballad “This Is for the Lover in You”. Hewett was the group’s lead singer from 1979 until 1985. \nWhen Shalamar broke up in the mid-1980s\, Hewett went on to a solid solo career. However\, in 1985 before signing his solo deal with Elektra Records\, he was arrested and indicted in Miami with his fiancée Mori Molina for possession with an intent to distribute cocaine. Molina\, who was indicted in Tampa as well as Miami\, was convicted and served prison time; but after a four-day trial\, in which Molina testified that Hewett had nothing to do with the crime\, Hewett was acquitted of all charges. In spite of his legal battles\, Hewett signed his solo deal with Elektra Records and in 1986\, before the Miami trial\, released his first solo album I Commit to Love (R&B number 12)\, a solid urban album that yielded two top 10 R&B hits\, “I’m for Real” (R&B number 2) and “Stay” (R&B number 8).In 1988\, he released his second album Forever and Ever\, which featured the hits “Strange Relationship” (R&B number 9\, and “Once\, Twice\, Three Times” (R&B number 15) \nSyleena Johnson \nGrammy-nominated recording artists Syleena Johnson is a woman of many titles and talents. As an R&B/soul songstress\, Syleena Johnson was destined to touch people and impact lives. Her sultry voice\, combined with her timeless beauty\, classic style\, and piercing delivery has made her a fan-favorite for nearly twenty years. \nInspired by the pain\, struggle\, strength\, and resilience of women everywhere\, Syleena returned to the studio with Grammy award-winning production team\, Toxic Productions. In January of 2019\, Syleena dropped her highly anticipated single\, WOMAN\, from her forthcoming new album with the same title. Their collaboration resulted in a battle-cry for women everywhere\, signaling a spirit of empowerment and amplifying the desire for cultural change. WOMAN is the opening single on the soundtrack of socially conscious revolution. Both Chicago natives\, Toxic and Syleena decided to join forces again on her 11th studio album\, Woman\, which is set to be her most compelling work to date. \nIn 2018\, Syleena Johnson added the title of author to her repertoire by releasing her highly anticipated self-help book\, “The Weight Is Over”. “The Weight is Over” is her compelling and triumphant journey toward self-love and discovery\, while chronicling her battles with body image birthed in adolescence and carried throughout her music career. Honest\, humane\, and heart-warming\, “The Weight Is Over” shares Syleena’s pain and progression; while providing practical ways to identify and eliminate stressors to sustain optimal mental\, emotional\, and physical health. A love letter of life’s lessons\, “The Weight Is Over” shines a spotlight on the complexities of love and demonstrates how self-worth can dictate how we emotionally invest in ourselves and others. An ode to obstacles faced and conquered\, this self-help book sets an indelible tone for reflection\, resurgence\, and redemption. Conceived and produced by her father\, the legendary soul/blues singer and producer Syl Johnson\, whose original hit version of “Take Me To The River” was covered by Al Green and Talking Heads. Syl Johnson’s recordings have been sampled by artists such as Wu-Tang Clan\, Usher and Kanye West. REBIRTH OF SOUL featured Syleena Johnson’s sultry interpretations of classic R&B songs\, mainly from the fifties and sixties; recorded in real time\, with live musicians\, just the way “real music” used to be made. Recording in Chicago\, Syl Johnson’s long-time base and Syleena’s hometown\, the sessions include musicians who played on hit R&B recordings there over the years and a majority of the album features songs associated with Chicago artists\, songwriters or record labels. Syleena shares\, “The inspiration behind REBIRTH OF SOUL is my father. SUMMARY:DMC Mental Health Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The DMC Mental Health Symposium brings together music\, mental wellness\, and motivation in an unforgettable event led by hip-hop pioneer Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. As a founding member of the legendary group Run-DMC\, Darryl broke barriers in music\, fashion\, and culture—selling over 40 million records and amassing a billion streams. Beyond the music\, his journey has been deeply personal and inspiring\, and we are pleased to host this Q&A and community discussion.\n \nDARRYL “DMC” MCDANIELS \nInnovator\, Motivator\, Philanthropist\, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels changed music and made history when he broke down cultural barriers with his legendary band Run-DMC. Forty million record sales and over a billion streams later\, he continues to inspire & impact the world… \nDarryl “DMC” McDaniels is a legendary music icon who first impacted the world 40 years ago when RUN DMC made their recording debut “It’s Like That/ Sucker MCs.” From the first rap group to grace the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine to the first to appear on MTV\, he helped changed music\, culture\, fashion\, language and made American history. It would be hard to overstate his influence on popular culture. \nForty million+ physical record sales and over a billion song streams later\, DMC still continues to create\, inspire and motivate. In 2009\, as a founding member of Run-DMC\, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2016 he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy given to “performers who\, during their lifetimes\, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.” \nHe recently launched a new cookie company in 2023 called Darryl Makes Cookies featuring his favorite cookies\, and continues to delight fans through his comic book company Darryl Makes Comics\, offering readers a journey that helps bridge the gap between the worlds of hip-hop and the fantastic adventures he got wrapped up in as a youth. The comic company’s first full length graphic novel hit stores in October 2014 and has since followed up with a new release every year. \nIn addition to his cookies and comics\, Darryl released his first children’s book in 2021 entitled “Darryl’s Dream” on Random House Books for Young Readers\, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books (RHCB)\, in partnership with Nickelodeon and ViacomCBS Consumer Products and is working on a second release. \nDarryl is also the co-author of two critically acclaimed books: his memoir entitled\, Ten Ways Not to Commit Suicide (2016/Harpers/Amistad) giving him another platform to talk about his past struggles with depression and helping those\, especially men of color\, remove the shame of asking for help. To help advanxe this important platform\, he has partnered with Uwill\, the leading mental health and wellness solution supporting 3 million students at 400 schools\, as a mental health advocate. \nDarryl released the hit single “Just like Me” featuring Sarah McLachlan; a song he wrote after discovering he was adopted. The song spoke to his new revelation and began his journey down another life path\, in search of his birth mother. While his search struggle was captured in the 2007 Emmy Winning VH1 documentary DMC: My Adoption Journey\, the process gave DMC tremendous insight and purpose\, prompting him to become an advocate for adoption and children in foster care. \nIn 2006 he co-founded the Felix Organization with Hollywood casting agent Sheila Jaffe- a nonprofit that works to provide inspiring opportunities and new experiences to enrich the lives of children who are growing in the foster care system. http://www.thefelixorganization.org \nAll the while\, DMC’s music continues to inspire! In 2017 he released the eagerly anticipated special vinyl-only limited edition EP\, Back From the Dead- The Legend Lives with the 4-track power-bolt featuring iconic collaborations from the rock and hip hop worlds including Chuck D (Public Enemy)\, John Moyer (Disturbed)\, Rome (Sublime)\, and Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge\, Slash)\, and others.
