SUMMARY:5th Annual Leroy Robinson Festival: Lakeside and Special Guests
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n The Leroy Robinson Southern Soul & Soul Music Festival is a powerful celebration of music\, legacy\, and community—created in honor of the late Elkhart legend Leroy Robinson\, whose lifelong commitment to service\, leadership\, and culture left a lasting impact on the region. \nOriginally established following Robinson’s passing in 2022\, the festival was inspired by his deep love of soul music and his vision for bringing people together through meaningful cultural experiences. Today\, the festival continues as an annual tradition celebrating Southern Soul\, classic R&B\, and funk—genres that tell stories of resilience\, joy\, and connection. \nThis year’s festival is headlined by Lakeside\, the legendary funk and R&B group whose iconic hits—including “Fantastic Voyage\,” “It’s All the Way Live\,” and “Raid”—have kept audiences dancing for generations. After early development under the guidance of industry veterans including Eddie Thomas and Dick Griffey\, the band signed with Griffey’s SOLAR Records\, where they gained creative freedom to write and co-produce their own music—an opportunity that helped define their distinctive\, groove-driven sound. \nLakeside broke through nationally with their 1978 album Shot of Love\, led by the Top 5 R&B hit “It’s All the Way Live.” Their success reached new heights with the release of Fantastic Voyage (1980)\, featuring the iconic title track that topped the R&B charts\, crossed over to the pop charts\, and went Gold and Platinum. The song remains one of funk music’s most recognizable anthems. \nThroughout the 1980s\, Lakeside continued to deliver chart-topping hits including “Raid\,” “Outrageous\,” and “Bullseye\,” earning a reputation for high-energy performances\, bold visual style\, and timeless dance-floor classics. With a legacy spanning decades\, Lakeside’s music continues to unite generations through infectious rhythms\, soulful melodies\, and unmistakable funk. \n \n \n \n \n \n TK Soul\nT.K. SUMMARY:2026 Mental Health Symposium: Sheryl Swoopes & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \nThe 2nd Annual Mental Health Symposium brings together music\, mental wellness\, and motivation in an unforgettable event led by WNBA and Basketball Legend Sheryl Swoopes. A 2016 Nasmith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Swoopes has broken barriers in music\, fashion\, culture and basketball worldwide. Beyond the basketball\, her journey has been deeply personal and inspiring\, and we are pleased to host this Q&A and community discussion. \nSheryl Swoopes \nThe first woman to ever be signed to the WNBA. First woman to have a signature shoe with Nike. Olympian\, WNBA MVP\, and WNBA champion. What hasn’t Sheryl Swoopes done? \nWomen’s professional basketball is still a relatively new thing in the United States. For someone like Sheryl Swoopes\, the role models and heroines she looked up to on the basketball court usually made their legends in the college ranks\, before falling into obscurity after the conclusion of their amateur tenures or going off to play in Europe until the Olympics every four years. Despite the question mark surrounding the chance to make a name for herself in the sport that she loved\, Sheryl Swoopes always knew that basketball was her passion. At just seven years old\, she played little league basketball in her native Brownfield\, TX. In high school\, she played for the Brownfield Cubs\, where she grew to a full six feet tall. As a senior\, Swoopes led the Cubs with 26.7 and 13 rebounds per game en route to a Class 3A All-State selection and a second-team Parade All-American nod. \nAfter high school\, Swoopes played two years at South Plains Community College (Levelland\, TX) where her 1\,381 total points in just two years set the career scoring mark between the years 1975-1991\, where the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) only had one division for women’s basketball. Her prolific offensive prowess did not stop in Levelland\, because after two years she transferred to Texas Tech. The school’s website hails her as the “most decorated athlete in Texas Tech history.” The praise is justified; in her senior season alone Swoopes scored 28.1 points per game while leading the Lady Raiders to Southwest Conference regular season and tournament championships\, respectively\, and the NCAA Championship in 1993. Sheryl Swoopes’ name is on 30 total NCAA women’s basketball records as a Lady Raider\, as well as the school’s single game points record\, 53. In 1994\, Texas Tech retired Sheryl Swoopes’ No. 22 jersey\, and she was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2003. \nIn 1995\, while playing for Basket Bari\, an Italian club team\, Swoopes made history by becoming the first woman to have a signature athletic shoe with Nike. The shoe\, called the Air Swoopes\, helped pave the way for more female athletes to receive shoe deals like Nike’s Dawn Staley and A’ja Wilson\, as well as Adidas’ Candace Parker. According to kickstory\, a shoe and style based website\, the original Air Swoopes were designed to be lighter and less bulky than men’s shoes at the time\, fit for Sheryl’s game. The shoes also used Nike’s latest and greatest technology to offer unparalleled ankle support. There were seven total iterations of the Air Swoopes line\, with the last being the Nike Air Tuned Swoopes\, released in 1999. \nWhen the WNBA held their first draft in April 1997\, Swoopes was allocated to the Houston Comets due to her Texas origins. She was also the very first player in the league’s history to sign a contract with a team. Her second seaosn as a pro is where the magic really happened. It was then that Swoopes started a streak of four seasons as a first-team WNBA selection in seasons where she played more than 10 games\, only missing the 2001 season with a torn ACL. In 2002\, her first year back\, Swoopes picked up without missing a beat\, winning both league MVP and Defensive Player of the Year\, scoring 18.5 points and snaring 2.8 steals per game. At the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game\, the year she retired\, she was recognized as one of the WNBA’s 15 greatest players at the time. \nInternationally\, Swoopes starred on the US Women’s National Team\, winning gold at the 1996\, 2000\, and 2004 Olympics\, respectively. She is one of 11 players to win an Olympic gold medal\, FIBA World Cup gold medal\, WNBA\, and an NCAA championship. In 2016\, she was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. \nIn her post-playing career\, Sheryl Swoopes served as an assistant coach at Mercer Island High School (WA) in 2010\, a Texas Tech WBB color analyst (2012-13 and 2017-18 seasons)\, and varying assistant roles on both the Loyola University Chicago and Texas Tech women’s teams. \nIn the basketball space\, Sheryl Swoopes was a trailblazer. Not only was she a dynamic force for decades on the court\, but she paved the path and gave the blueprint for all women that came after her. It is only right that we honor her as the WNBA’s first legend. \nFeaturing Special Guest: Aubrey Massey \nAubrey Massey is a 2026 graduate of Saint Ursula Academy and a dedicated student-athlete in Track & Field. Her athletic journey began in youth AAU track and has provided her with firsthand experience of both the rewards and challenges of competitive athletics. Through her own experiences and those of her peers\, Aubrey has gained a deep understanding of the mental\, emotional\, and social pressures student-athletes face\, including anxiety\, depression\, performance-related stress\, and the challenge of balancing academics\, athletics\, and personal expectations. \nDriven by a passion for supporting fellow athletes\, Aubrey founded Person-Centered Athletic Network (PCAN)\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating safe spaces where student-athletes can build confidence\, openly discuss mental health\, and learn how to “cope and compete” without fear or stigma. Through PCAN\, she co-hosted The Athlete: Mental Health Summit\, impacting more than 300 students and bringing together dozens of speakers\, collegiate professionals\, and community leaders. She also leads PCAN’s flagship Ambassador Program\, overseeing a team of 45 trained high school athletes certified in Mental Wellness First Aid who teach social-emotional learning\, leadership\, and conflict resolution to elementary and junior high school students. \nAubrey’s leadership extends beyond her nonprofit work. At Saint Ursula Academy\, she served as Class Vice President throughout all four years of high school and was an active member of the Diversity Advisory Committee\, helping strengthen school culture and advocate for her fellow students. As captain of the Track & Field team\, she demonstrated exceptional leadership while earning six school records. \nThis fall\, Aubrey will continue her academic and athletic career at Robert Morris University\, where she will compete as a Division I track and field athlete. She plans to major in Health Science on the pre-dental track while continuing her commitment to leadership\, service\, and the well-being of student-athletes. \nFeaturing Special Guest: Jonelle Massey \nJonelle Massey is a nationally certified licensed mental health therapist for 20+ years. \nShe received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Xavier University in Cincinnati\, Ohio. Jonelle’s diverse service in education as a former school counselor and psychotherapist includes both public and private\, primary and secondary educational settings\, as well as psychiatric hospital care and private practice. \nMarried to a Division I college basketball coach for 20 years Jonelle adjusts well to relocation and makes an immediate impact with each professional move. As a former Division I athletic scholarship recipient with Xavier University’s women’s basketball program\, Jonelle shares her passion for teaching effective teamwork\, motivation and resilience through an empathetic framework.  \nIn 2023\, Jonelle founded Agility Counseling Group\, a private practice supporting college\, professional and retired athletes. Her strength in leadership is also evident in her professional mental health lectures and workshops presented across the country.  Jonelle consults with college and high school athletic teams in increasing psychological safe team environments that also reinforces accountability.  \nJonelle volunteers on the National Alopecia Areata Foundation governance board for the past 6 years and Toledo’s Alliance of Black Student Educators.  In Spring 2021\, Jonelle published her first book\, “The Miseducation of Empathy”. Her successful debut book that has sold over 3000 copies dismantles traditional ideas about how we should be practicing empathy. A native of Cincinnati\, Ohio\, Jonelle resides in Toledo\, Ohio with her husband\, and Elkhart legend\, Coach Jeff Massey and their two daughters\, Aubrey and Kayla.  \nFeaturing Special Guest: Nathan D. Palmer \n \nNathan D Palmer is a former American football player in the National Football League. He played college football at Northern Illinois University and was named the 2011 MVP of the Mac conference championship game. Palmer signed undrafted free agent contract following the 2012 draft. Palmer has played on a few NFL teams\, including Indianapolis Colts\, Miami Dolphins\, Denver Broncos\, New England Patriots\, Chicago Bears\, Oakland Raiders. \nAfter retiring from the NFL Palmer pursuit a career in music and is currently traveling with the retire\, NFL choir \n\n \n Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n There are no upcoming events.

DESCRIPTION:Elkhart Art Walk\n \n Elkhart Music Town\n \n \n \n \n \n INDIE ROCK FROM THE GREAT LAKES! \nNiles\, Michigan’s The Erly came together in late 2017\, founded by vocalist/bassist Collin Mattiford and vocalist/drummer Fran Gleason. Guitarist and vocalist Trevor McDonald soon joined the lineup\, turning a last-minute “musician wanted” ad into a Craigslist success story. The band has since released three albums—Shadows (2018)\, Reckless (2021)\, and Culture Fever (2023)—building a loyal regional following with tracks like “Flame The Main\,” “Red Roof Inn\,” “Hey Amanda\,” and “Jasmine.”\n \nThe band’s trajectory took a sharp turn with the addition of keyboardist Simon Kauffman Hurst and the release of Salem Lights (2024). Featuring the singalong anthem “55 On The Other Side\,” the album propelled The Erly onto the national stage\, where they performed alongside acts like Sixpence None The Richer\, Cracker\, and Max.\n \nBlending structure with spontaneity\, The Erly delivers a “jam-adjacent” live sound that evolves with every performance. Their style weaves folk and Americana-inspired vocal harmonies with elements of jazz\, rock\, funk\, and soul\, creating a one-of-a-kind experience.\n \nOn August 21\, 2026\, The Erly will release Midnight River Show\, their fifth studio album.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT ART WALK AFTER HOURS \nElkhart Art Walk is expanding its footprint this season with the debut of Art Walk After Hours. Hosted on Central Green\, this high-energy concert series invites the community to stay late and experience a musical journey through time. \nThe series theme\, “Each show opens a portal to a different era\,” promises a curated selection of hits spanning the 1980s\, 1990s\, 2000s\, and today. Designed as a space “where the fans have a voice\,” the event emphasizes community engagement and the vibrant local music scene. \nThe 2026 Schedule (7:30 PM – 9:00 PM): \n\nMay 27\nJune 24\nJuly 29\nAugust 26\nSeptember 23\n\nIn partnership with Elkhart Artwalk\, The Lerner Theatre\, and Elkhart Music Town. SUMMARY:Elkhart Jazz Festival Presents: St. Paul and the Broken Bones
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n St. Paul & The Broken Bones are a powerhouse soul ensemble from Alabama. They’ll headline Saturday night at the Lerner Theatre as the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau presents the 38th annual Elkhart Jazz Festival.\n \n\nKnown for their electrifying live shows and impassioned vocals\, the band formed in Birmingham in 2011. Frontman Paul Janeway fills the room with rich vocals built in the gospel music he heard growing up and informed by the sounds of the Stylistics and Sam Cooke. He stands alongside Jesse Phillips (bass)\, Browan Lollar (guitar)\, Kevin Leon (drums)\, Al Gamble (keyboards)\, Allen Branstetter (trumpet)\, Chad Fisher (trombone)\, and Amari Ansari (saxophone). \nTheir new self-titled sixth album marks a creative renewal – melding the band’s adventurous spirit with a return to soulful\, song-focused roots. Lead single “Sushi and Coca-Cola” went to No. 1 on the Billboard adult alternative chart\, and “Fall Moon” went to No. 3 as the band continues to get extensive airplay on SiriusXM The Spectrum.  \n \n \n Get Tickets\n \n Visit elkhartjazzfestival.com\n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n There are no upcoming events. \n \n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n PRESENTED BY THE ELKHART COUNTY CVB

SUMMARY:Lunchtime Live with Celia Weiss – Kimball Organ Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Lerner is pleased to welcome an Elkhart favorite\, Celia Weiss\, back on The Lerner’s 1924 Kimball Organ in this free community series. \nCelia Weiss is one of few musical artists who hold the enviable record of having served as a soloist on two different musical instruments. A pianist and organist well known to local audiences\, the artist has appeared on numerous occasions with the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra\, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra\, the IUSB Philharmonic\, the Manchester University Symphony Orchestra\, and in recitals throughout the area. \nMrs. Weiss is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at IUSB for the Raclin School of the Arts where she teaches organ. She is a past recipient of the IUSB Merit Status and Outstanding Alumni Awards. She holds a B.M.E from Manchester College and a M.M. in Piano from Indiana University. An educator as well as a performer\, she has taught music in the Elkhart and Goshen Community Schools and piano at Goshen College. Since 1975 she has held the position of Director of Music and Organist for the First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart. She is a frequent accompanist for the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra and performs several piano and organ concerts for the Lerner Theatre’s “Lunchtime Live!” each year. \nThe 1924 Kimball pipe organ located in Elkhart\, Indiana’s Lerner Theatre is one of only two Kimball pipe organs currently installed in its original location. The organ was restored following the 2011 renovation of the theatre which opened on Thanksgiving Day\, 1924. After the restoration\, a crew of nearly 20 from Bunn-Minnick Pipe Organs of Columbus\, Ohio\, spent three weeks hoisting equipment and filling the two pipe chambers with more than 1\,000 pipes. The project absorbed nearly 10\,000 man-hours for the crew over a year. \n \n \n \n \n \n BEHIND THE CURTAIN: A GUIDED THEATRE TOUR\nFollowing each Lunchtime Live Kimball Organ Concert\, audiences are invited to step behind the curtain and experience the Lerner Theatre in a whole new way with Behind the Curtain: A Guided Theatre Tour. \nHeld immediately after the concert\, these guided tours offer a fascinating look at the theatre’s rich history\, stunning architecture\, and behind-the-scenes spaces that bring the Lerner’s magic to life. SUMMARY:Elkhart County Symphony - Exhale & Celebrate
DESCRIPTION:Music for Breathing\, Music for Joy \nThe Elkhart County Symphony’s exuberant Season 78 finale\, “Exhale & Celebrate\,” includes inventive works composed by—and featuring—guest soloist Caitlin Edwards and a performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol by the Symphony \nOn May 17\, 2026\, at The Lerner Theatre in Downtown Elkhart\, the Elkhart County Symphony presents its 2025-26 season finale\, “Exhale & Celebrate.” The Season 78 finale features guest soloist Caitlin Edwards on violin and presents a repertoire including music from the guest soloist’s album Exhale\, as well as the Symphony performing Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol and additional orchestral works. \nMs. Edwards\, a violinist\, arranger\, recording artist\, and teacher based in Chicago\, began her musical journey at age eight through the Music Opportunity Program in Birmingham\, Alabama. A classically-trained violinist\, Ms. Edwards credits gospel\, jazz\, hip-hop\, and neo-soul as her musical inspirations. She received degrees in Violin Performance from the University of Louisville (B.M.) and DePaul University (M.M.)\, studying with J. Patrick Rafferty and Janet Sung. \nDisrupting the status quo \nCurrently a mentor with the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative\, a program designed to offer resources to talented Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth pursuing careers in classical music\, Ms. Edwards’ musical ambition extends beyond herself. Having realized some of her own dreams—including winning numerous orchestral awards and earning the opportunity to perform and record behind artists such as John Legend\, Earth Wind and Fire\, Lauryn Hill\, Stewart Copeland\, Common\, Lucky Daye\, Yolanda Adams\, and India Arie—her ultimate goal is to help educate and inspire the next generation of young Black musicians\, and to see the voices and faces of Black people normalized in traditionally monopolized spaces through increased visibility and disruption of the status quo. \nMs. Edwards is a 2023 Sphinx MPower Artist Grant recipient\, a 2022 Esteemed Artist Award recipient from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events\, and a 2021 3Arts/Walder Foundation Awardee. She has performed with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra\, \nNairobi Philharmonic\, Grant Park Festival Orchestra\, Chicago Sinfonietta\, National Repertory Orchestra\, the Chicago Philharmonic\, Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago\, and the ReCollective Orchestra in New York City and Los Angeles\, and was also a recipient of the Rising Star Award from the Gateways Music Festival. In addition\, Ms. Edwards has received Grammy certificates for recordings on Disney’s The Lion King with the Re-Collective Orchestra and for albums by John Legend and PJ Morton. \nHer acclaimed 2021 debut solo album\, Exhale\, fuses the sound of classical music with the soul and harmonies of gospel and neo-soul. The Elkhart County Symphony is honored and pleased to welcome Ms. Edwards and collaborate to perform some of her innovative and inspiring work at “Exhale & Celebrate.” \nFive joyful movements \nCapriccio espagnol is a five-movement orchestral suite\, based on Spanish folk melodies\, composed in 1887 by the Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. It premiered in St. Petersburg in 1887\, conducted by Rimsky-Korsakov\, during an October performance by the Imperial Orchestra.  \nThe composer intended to write the work for a solo violin with orchestra\, but eventually decided that a purely orchestral work would better suit its lively and energetic melodies. Often praised for the strength of its orchestration\, Capriccio espagnol features a large percussion section and many special techniques and articulations—for example\, in the fourth movement\, when the violinists\, violists\, and cellists are directed to imitate guitars.  \nRimsky-Korsakov was considered a master of orchestration and was a member of the group of influential\, nationalistic Russian composers known as The Five. His best-known orchestral compositions—including Capriccio espagnol\, the Russian Easter Overture\, and the symphonic suite Scheherazade—are staples of the classical music repertoire\, and the composer was thought to have influenced an entire generation of younger composers and musicians during his many years as an educator. Rimsky-Korsakov\, therefore\, is largely thought of as the principal architect of what the classical music public considers the “Russian style.” \n\n \n Get Elkhart County Symphony Tickets
